MASTER YOUR CAMERA

Stop guessing. Start creating.
9 hours of practical, hands-on photography training designed to get you out of Auto and confidently in control of your camera.

Real photographs. Real students.
All the photographs on this page were photographs created by students we've taught while learning and developing their photography skills.
You don't need the most expensive camera.
You don't need twenty years of experience.
You need to understand light, your camera and what you're trying to create.
YOUR CAMERA CAN DO MORE THAN YOU THINK
You bought a camera because you wanted to take better photographs.
And then came aperture. Shutter speed. ISO. Autofocus modes. Metering. White balance. Lenses. Menus within menus within menus.
Suddenly Auto mode started looking rather attractive.
We get it.
Master Your Camera is designed to take away the confusion.
Over 9 hours, we’ll help you understand not only what your camera settings do, but when to use them and why.
No endless technical lectures.
No drowning in terminology.
No expectation that you already know what you’re doing.
Just practical photography, explained clearly and put into practice with a camera in your hands.

9 HOURS. THREE SESSIONS.
ONE CAMERA YOU FINALLY UNDERSTAND.

01 | TAKE CONTROL

Get out of Auto.
We start with the foundations and demystify the controls that determine how your photographs look.
You’ll learn:
• Aperture
• Shutter speed
• ISO
• The exposure triangle
• Manual and semi-automatic shooting modes
• Autofocus and focus points
• Metering
• White balance
• Understanding your lenses
• Choosing settings for different situations
Most importantly, you’ll start understanding why you would choose one setting over another.

02 | LEARN TO SEE

A technically correct photograph isn't necessarily a good photograph.
Once you understand the camera, we turn our attention to the person behind it.
You’ll explore:
• Composition
• Working with available light
• Depth of field
• Freezing and showing movement
• Perspective and viewpoint
• Focal length and lens choice
• Subject placement
• Visual storytelling
• Making deliberate creative choices
This is where photography begins to move beyond settings and starts becoming your photograph.

03 | GO CREATE

Put everything into practice.
Photography is learned with a camera in your hands, not a notebook on your lap.
Your final session brings everything together through practical shooting, experimentation and guided feedback.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
• Work through real shooting situations
• Experiment with different settings
• Solve common photographic problems
• Explore different creative approaches
• Ask questions about your own camera
• Review your photographs
• Receive practical feedback
• Identify what to work on next
By the end of the course, our goal isn't for you to memorise every setting on your camera.
It's for you to understand how to make the camera do what you want it to do.

FAQ
Is this course suitable for complete beginners?
Absolutely. You don’t need any previous photography training. We start with the fundamentals and build your confidence as you go.

What camera do I need?
What camera do I need?
What will I be able to do after the 9 hours?
You’ll need a DSLR or mirrorless camera that allows you to control settings such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and other camera systems are welcome. If you’re unsure whether your camera is suitable, just get in touch before booking.

You’ll need a DSLR or mirrorless camera that allows you to control settings such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and other camera systems are welcome. If you’re unsure whether your camera is suitable, just get in touch before booking.

Our aim is for you to understand your camera rather than simply memorise settings. You should leave more confident controlling exposure, focus, depth of field, movement, light and composition, and better able to make deliberate creative decisions when you photograph.

Do I need to know Manual mode already?

Not at all. Getting you comfortable with your camera and understanding how to take control of your settings is one of the main goals of the course.

Will we actually take photographs during the course?
What’s the difference between private and group lessons?
Definitely. This is hands-on learning. We’ll explain a concept, then you’ll use your camera to experiment with it, see the results and understand what’s happening.

The course content is the same. Small-group sessions allow you to learn and experiment alongside other photographers, while private tuition gives you one-to-one attention and allows us to tailor the pace and exercises more closely to you.

Still have a question?
We’re photographers. We’re teachers. And we’re very used to questions.
